The Month of January

The Month of January promises a new beginning.  We drum out the old and sing in the new; we make resolutions, promises, and have Great Expectations. We celebrate New Year's Day on the 1st and Chinese New Year on the 23rd.  We remind ourselves of the virtues of Peace and Living Together on Martin Luther King Jr.'s day on the 16th.  The month highlight's good health as well by celebrating

  • National Eye Care Month
  • Volunteer Blood Donor Month
  • National Book Month (health of your mind)
  • National Oatmeal Month (warm your tummy on a cool January morning)
  • National Soup Month ("No Soup for you" unless you follow the rules)

The month brings us a variety of other celebrations as well.

  • January 1st--New Year's Day
  • January 3rd--Fruit Cake Toss Day
  • January 6th--Cuddle Up Day
  • January 10th--Houseplant Appreciation Day
  • January 12th--Feast of the Fabulous Wild Men
  • Janyuary 26th--Australia Day (throw that other shripm on the barbie)
  • January 27th--National Chocolate Cake Day

If you are celebrating your birthday this month, you do so along with these folks as well. Your Birthday Stone is the Garnet; your birthday flowers are the Carnation and the Snowdrop.  Have a very Happy Birthday!

  • 1st--Paul Revere
  • 3rd--J.R.R. Tolkein
  • 4th--Louis Braille
  • 8th--Elvis
  • 14th--Benedict Arnold
  • 16th--Dizzy Dean
  • 19th--Paul Cexanne
  • 20th--Buzz Aldrin
  • 21st--Jack Nicklaus
  • 26th--Wayne Gretzky
  • 27th--Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • 31st--Ernie Banks (Go Cubs!)
