The Bridge Central Spring IMP League is an event that will begin May 1, 2008, and be played for 6 or 7 weeks depending on the number of registrants. Like a pair event, players compete as pairs. A team can consist of four, five or six players, but only four team members ever play at the same time. Here is how a this team event works: two members of your team, playing as a partnership, sit North-South at one table. two other members of your team, also playing as a partnership, sit East-West at a different table. The two pairs from the opposing team fill the empty spots at the two tables. During the course of a match, exactly the same boards are played at both tables.
Since results are achieved at both tables on exactly the same boards, a comparison of results is possible. Each match will consist of 24 boards. The matches will be scored based on International Matchpoints (IMPs). This is a special conversion system designed to give fairer comparisons for team games. The ACBL IMP scale is provided in many ACBL publications, including the Convention Card. Scoring will be done by comparing the results of each board based on this ACBL IMP scale. The winner of each match will be the team with the highest total IMP's. The IMP difference for each match will be converted to a 30 Victory Point Scale to determine the Team Standings
The IMP League teams will be bracketed based on the Masterpoints of the top four players. The handicap for each match will be based upon players that actually play in that match using an ACBL formula.
The IMP League has a Sectional Rating for ACBL masterpoint awards. But, you don't have to be an ACBL member to participate in this event.
There will always be good hospitality available to add to the social aspect of Bridge.
